LTA Overview

The use of games for teaching and learning can often be a very effective teaching tool. An example of a particularly good tool is the use of crossword puzzles. This week’s LTA will show you how to use Hot Potatoes, a free software package to create online crossword puzzles relatively easily and quickly. Hot Potatoes is available for both the PC and Mac platforms. This LTA will demonstrate the use of the software from the PC perspective.

If you are not familiar with Hot Potatoes, it is a software suite that includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is not freeware, but it is free of charge for non-profit educational users who make their pages available on the web.
